Huangshan
The Yellow Mountain (Huangshan) is probably the most famous Chinese mountain. Located in the southern part of Anhui Province, it extends across four counties - Shexian, Yixian, Taiping and Xining. The Yellow Mountain is a marvel: within an area of 154 square kilometers there are as many as 72 peaks, whose names indicate the shapes they resemble. Lotus Flower Peak, Bright Summit Peak and Celestial Capital Peak are the three major ones, all rising above 1,800 meters. Meanwhile, the fantastic pines, the grotesque rocks, the sea of clouds and the hot springs are the four major attractions of the Yellow Mountains.
Immortalized in ancient and modern Chinese art, this area of hanging mists, sharply rising ledges and gnarled pines is of outstanding beauty, and is considered by most Chinese as an essential tourist destination.
